HUFS Jean Monnet EU Centre Participates in the 2026 KDF Global Forum

The Jean Monnet EU Centre at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), directed by Professor Kim Bong-chul, participated in the 2026 KDF Global Forum held on June 11 at the Democracy Memorial Hall. At the forum, the Centre engaged in academic exchanges and policy discussions centered on democracy, international security, and trust-building in the era of digital transformation.

Under the theme, “The Future of Democratic Solidarity: Transitional Justice, AI, and Cross-Border Cooperation,” the forum brought together domestic and international researchers and experts to explore ways to strengthen the resilience of democracy and chart the future of global cooperation.

The Jean Monnet EU Centre specifically took part in the thematic session titled “Democracy and International Security.” This session addressed key challenges confronting modern democracies, including the shifting landscape of international security in relation to democratic values, the evolving information environment in the digital age, and the establishment of social trust.

During the panel discussion, the Centre shared the European Union's (EU) experiences and best practices in international cooperation. It also underscored the vital role of global partnerships in safeguarding democracy, ensuring security, and fostering mutual trust.

Director Kim Bong-chul remarked, “To effectively respond to the diverse challenges threatening democracy today, cross-border cooperation and academic exchange are essential.” He further added, “Moving forward, the Jean Monnet EU Centre will continue to contribute to the advancement of democracy and international cooperation, drawing upon our extensive EU-related research and global networks.”

Hosted by the Korea Democracy Foundation (KDF) and the Democracy Memorial Hall, and co-organized and sponsored by various domestic and international institutions, the forum featured a diverse array of sessions dedicated to navigating the future of democracy and strengthening global cooperation.
