EU Barometer in Korea

Period: October to December 2011

Participants: 1,766 Korean undergraduate and postgraduate students

The Centre conducted the EU Barometer survey to measure the awareness of the EU among Korean undergraduate and postgraduate students from October to December 2011. Together with the second EU Young Challenge, the EU Barometer was funded by the EU Centre and 13 teams from all over the country participated in the development of the survey. Based on the survey of 1,766 people, the EU Young Challenge programme held a thesis contest designed for university students all over the country. The opinion poll result was analysed with the ‘Institute of Political Sciences’. The survey shows that Korean students’ knowledge of the EU is very low, regardless of their regions. Moreover, it reveals that Korean students have negative expectations on the EU’s role in the international arena and the East Asia region. The opinion polls result will be published.
