On July 1st and 2nd, an international conference was held in the seminar room of the University of LUISS in Rome, co-hosted by the Korean Society of Contemporary European Studies and the HUFS Jean monnet EU Center, with the support of Gyeonggi Province. The meeting was themed “Sustainable Coexistence in the Eternal City: A Legacy of Peace on the Korean Peninsula Envisioned from Rome,” and featured a lively discussion by a panel of about 60 scholars, diplomats, and representatives of civil societies from both sides.
The opening ceremony included an opening speech by President Kim Bong-cheol, a congratulatory address by Ambassador Kim Jun-goo, a video message by Ambassador Emilio Gatto, a congratulatory address by Silvia Chiave, Ambassador for International Relations of the Lazio Region, and a welcoming address by Raffaele Marchetti, former Vice President for External Affairs of the host university.
In the keynote session, presentations were given by Director Kim Si-hong, former EU Ambassador to Korea Michael Reiterer, and Austrian Ambassador to Korea Eva Marie Russek, and a lively discussion continued on the topic of peace on the Korean Peninsula and the role of Europe in the international order under the new Cold War, where conflicts are intensifying.
Ambassador of Korea to Rome Kim Jun-goo invited the attendees to a dinner at his official residence and exchanged opinions on issues of mutual interest.
