HUFS Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Successfully Hosts Special Seminar with Professor Iskren Ivanov from Sofia University

On September 7, 2026, the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, together with the Institute of EU Studies, successfully held a special academic seminar featuring Professor Iskren Ivanov from Sofia University at Fila Acushnet Hall on the fifth floor of the HUFS Seoul Campus Library. Held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the event drew strong interest from faculty, researchers, and students interested in contemporary international affairs and European studies.

Organized under the theme ‘Squid Games and Security Dilemmas: Towards the Post-Unipolar Moment’, the seminar offered a unique perspective on global security by connecting the narrative and themes of popular cultural phenomena with core theories of international relations. During his lecture, Professor Ivanov examined the shifting global architecture from a unipolar structure toward a complex, multipolar environment, detailing how zero-sum dynamics and structural security dilemmas increasingly define today’s foreign policy and defense landscapes.

The presentation was followed by an engaging discussion and Q&A session, where participants exchanged diverse viewpoints with the speaker on the future of Eurasian security, evolving regional alignments, and the challenges facing multilateral governance. The HUFS Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence plans to build on the success of this seminar by continuing to host distinguished international scholars and foster critical academic dialogue on key global issues.
