EU-DPRK Relations Seminar at HSS Seoul Office

On Wednesday, June 5, the EU Centre (Director Kim Si-hong) invited Dr. Bernhard Seliger from the Hanns Seidel Foundation to hold a seminar on the topic “Perspectives of EU-North Korea Cooperation after Covid and the War in Ukraine.”

This seminar was organized to examine the role of the European Union (EU) and the possibilities for cooperation amid the recent deepening of North Korea-Russia relations and changes in the international situation. Dr. Seliger explained the North Korean situation and emphasized that the EU should prepare to create a foundation for multilateral cooperation as a facilitator.

In the ensuing discussion, Professor Lee Moo-sung mentioned the importance of the EU’s role as a neutral mediator and its humanitarian-centered approach, and suggested the need for a regionalized cooperation system based on European-style multi-level governance.
